This handmade, sterling silver pendant is made with a natural stone cabochon. It is a dinosaur bone aka gem bone. This fossil stone is fully petrified (agatized) with large black webbing and neutral golden brown cells. I think of this as being a very masculine stone. Gem bone is no longer being collected on public lands. Only a handful of private land owners are bringing it to market. As a result, prices are on the rise as availability decreases.
As with all of my wire wrapped jewelry, I used heavy wire- not plated, filled or coated wire to finish this wire wrapped pendant. I used one of my signature settings to create a masculine or unisex look in heavy pure copper wire, to which I added a hand applied antique patina. All of my attention was paid to the details. This is going to be very comfortable to wear with no poking, rough or sharp edges.

More About Dinosaur Bone:
Agatized Dinosaur Bone, or, Gem Bone for short, is the name given to dinosaur bones which have been petrified. The cells in the bone have been replaced by agate, making them hard, colorful and easy to finish for cabochons. The colors are caused by different kinds of minerals such as chlorite, chromium, iron and manganese. Dinosaur bone is a rare gem with the best material being colorful and having distinct cells in a web like pattern. Dinosaur bone comes in many colors with gold and red being more rare. Gem dinosaur bone is found in the American Southwest, almost exclusively where the states Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado meet in the Jurassic Era Morrison Formation. It has a Mohs hardness of anywhere from 3.5 to 6.5.
