This collectible Nevada Blue Boy mine variscite pendant is made with a natural stone cabochon. The pendant is handmade with sterling silver in the wire wrapped style. This wonderful variscite (like turquoise) is a really great piece with texture and natural inclusions which add interest. As with turquoise, this stone is valued for the inclusions.
I used heavy, solid sterling silver wire (not plated, coated or filled) to make an interesting and unique frame. I think could be worn by a man or a woman- certainly by someone who appreciates a whole different look in wire wrapping.

More About Variscite:
Variscite is a relatively rare mineral. It is sometimes confused with green blue chrysocolla. It is also confused with turquoise and is often called its "cousin", due to the, sometimes, close proximity of the two in nature. There is a mixture of turquoise and variscite called variquoise. The color of Variscite ranges from light bluish green to medium and dark greens, including shades of emerald green.
Variscite is a semi-precious stone popular for carvings, ornamental use and jewelry. In recent years, it has become popular for its color. Variscite is found in the United States, Australia, Germany and Brazil. The most sought after variscite comes from nodules found in Utah, USA, where it displays fine, light "spiderwebs" and other formations. In the past, variscite has been called Utahlite. Variscite found in Nevada, US can display a darker spiderweb effect.
Variscite has a waxy, vitreous lustre and is between a 3.5 to 4.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. It is transparent to translucent, with stunning translucent specimens referred to as "gel".
