This handmade, wire wrapped pendant is made with a natural cabochon of Deschutes Jasper. Deschutes Jasper is one of a handful of classic all American gems. Unfortunately, it is no longer mined and it is rare to find really good rough. I cabbed this myself from carefully chosen rough and the pattern is top notch. The neutral colors are perfect for an everyday pendant. I even think of this as unisex being equally nice for a man or woman.
As with all of my silver wire wrapped jewelry, I set this medium size stone in solid sterling silver wire, not plated or filled or coated. I wanted a simple setting so as not to detract from the beautiful pattern and rich colors of the stone.

More About Jasper:
Jasper is an opaque and fine grained variety of impure Chalcedony (type of quartz). It has a hardness of 6.5-7 on the Moh's hardness scale. It is found in almost all colors. The interesting colors and patterns are caused by impurities. They can be up to 20% impure. Sometimes, those impurities will cause patterns that resemble pictures or landscapes and, as such, is then called a picture jasper. Other times they cause a variety of color and or interesting patterns or bands.
