This handmade, sterling silver pendant is made with a natural stone cabochon called Polka Dot agate. These beautiful, distinctive agates are only found at the Richardson Rock Ranch, Madras, Oregon, formerly the Priday Ranch. This particular variety is known for the white backgrounds with golden yellow dots.
As I do for all of my sterling silver, wire wrapped jewelry, I used heavy sterling silver wire- not plated, filled or coated wire. For this pendant, I used a border wrap and made a beaded top with a large silver bead over a smaller silver bead and with a sturdy, high quality sterling silver bail over all. This is very nice in person. It has a Bali look to me. In the pictures, the top bead looks a little askew. It was. It isn't anymore, I fixed it. Leave it to a close up picture to show you your mistakes. :)

More about Agate:
Agate is a semi precious microcrystalline type of silica, a banded chalcedony, which is a member of the quartz family. Agates are finely grained, can contain bright colors and have a Moh's hardness of 6.5 to 7, which is very hard. Because of the hardness, agate takes a fabulous polish and is extremely durable for carved items. It has been a popular material for carving since ancient times. There are many types of agates. It is an avidly collected stone and is less common than a lot of other types of stones. It is very popular in jewelry.
Agate is a protective stone and attracts strength. It helps achieve balanced energy.
