White Petrified Coral Pendant Natural Fossil Stone Cabochon Sterling Silver Wire Wrapped

This handmade, sterling silver pendant is made with a natural stone cabochon. This cabochon is more accurately called a fossil stone because it is petrified agatized coral. It comes from Indonesia, from the islands of Sumatra or Java. This cab is first rate! It has the winter white light colors with enough contrast to see the small polyp pattern. This is a crisp detailed, beautiful cab.

I made this wire wrapped pendant setting with heavy sterling silver. As with all of my wire wrapped silver jewelry, the wire is not plated, filled or coated, but solid sterling silver. I cabbed this cab with a rectangle shape and used coiling on the sides to add texture and emphasize the shape. I used prongs to hold the stone without obscuring any of the pattern. An antique patina highlights the time consuming, textural and functional elements in this piece.
