This handmade, sterling silver pendant is made with a natural stone cabochon of Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper with the very sought after white quartz inclusions. This is a show stopper with predominate red and black coloration. The poppies are a beautiful red with green centers, called "pimento", against the dark background. The poppies really pop. This does have both healed and partially healed fractures as Morgan Hill Poppy is known for, as it comes out of an earthquake zone, but it IS a solid, high quality stone.
I made this wire wrapped setting with special heavy sterling silver wire- not plated, filled or coated wire. I wanted to do something special for this stone, so I created this gorgeous setting, Then added a 6mm Ant Hill Garnet from Arizona. These are very interesting garnets. Besides their unique beauty and attributes they are literally mined by ants. The raw garnets are pushed up out of their tunnels where they are collected on the surface, usually by Native American women. This is a bright red stone, which didn't photograph well in my studio, so I got a picture under halogen lights (last picture). And, lastly, I added a nice woven bail. This is a stunning piece!

More About Jasper:
Jasper is an opaque and fine grained variety of impure Chalcedony (type of quartz). It has a hardness of 6.5-7 on the Moh's hardness scale. It is found in almost all colors. The interesting colors and patterns are caused by impurities. They can be up to 20% impure. Sometimes, those impurities will cause patterns that resemble pictures or landscapes and, as such, is then called a picture jasper. Other times they cause a variety of color and or interesting patterns or bands.
Jasper is known as a supreme nurturer.
