This handmade wire wrapped sterling silver pendant is made with a genuine gemstone cabochon. The stone, Malachite from Africa, has been revered for centuries as one of the most beloved cabochon cut gemstones. This particular stone has the favored bull's eye pattern. Not all malachite can be cabbed like this.
Like I do with all of my sterling silver jewelry, I used heavy gauge, solid sterling silver (not coated, filled or plated) wire to make a sturdy wire art setting for this beautiful vibrant green stone.

More about Malachite
Malachite is one of the copper bearing gems. It is very similar (except for its color) to azurite which is also a copper mineral. They are often found together. Malachite is much more available that azurite, however. Fine malachite is found in many places with the Democratic Republic of Congo currently producing the most sought after malachite along with Arizona, USA.
Malachite is often found with banded formations of color which produces its distinguished appearance. It is sometimes cut to display a bulls eye of green bands found in malachite stalactites. Malachite is relatively soft and is often carved, too. It has been used for centuries as a beautiful green pigment, as well.
