This handmade wire wrapped sterling silver pendant is made with a natural stone cabochon of Montana Covellite. This material is very rare. Leonard Mine, Butte MT, USA was the the best source for this wonderful copper based stone, but it hasn't been collected for decades. This stone is highly metallic. The gold color in the stone is fool's gold aka pyrite. It also has Chalcocite, which is the mottled gunmetal color you see in the pictures. It too is metallic looking. Covellite is heavy for it's size as it is laden with copper based minerals. The white is calcite. The price of this is reduced due to the amount of pyrite and chalcocite in it.
I used heavy, solid sterling silver, not coated, filled or plated, wire to make a sturdy setting for this beautiful stone. I added an antique patina.
