This handmade, sterling silver pendant is made with a natural stone cabochon. This is a Koroit opal from Australia. It has a nice pattern in rich, neutral browns with some creamy common opal (not the flashy kind) running through it. I cut this stone to follow the natural pattern in the stone. I love Koroits for the often sinewy flame patterns in the rock with the added bonus of either precious or common opal, both of which are appealing in the host.
I made this wire wrapped pendant setting with heavy sterling silver. As with all of my wire wrapped silver jewelry, the wire is not plated, filled or coated, but solid sterling silver. I wrapped it simply, with special wire, so as not to obscure the stone. I think the wrap gives it a nice big silver look. I added a very nice, high quality bail stamped .925 for sterling silver.
