Long Chatoyant Green Malachite Earrings Dangly Sterling Silver Handmade Wire Wrapped

These handmade wire wrapped sterling silver delicate, dangly earrings are made with genuine gemstone cabochons from Milpillas, Mexico. The stone, Malachite, has been revered for centuries as one of the most beloved cabochon cut gemstones. This particular set is very special. They are chatoyant- meaning that the colors shift from darker green to lighter green according to the light intensity and direction. These cabs are not a precise match, which can be forgiven given the scarcity of chatoyant malachite. They are not heavy, either, so these will be very comfortable to wear.

Like I do with all of my sterling silver jewelry, I used heavy gauge, solid sterling silver (not coated, filled or plated) wire to make sturdy wire art settings for these beauties. These include sturdy, handmade, solid sterling silver earwires.

stones ---- abt 26x9mm
earrings with the earwires ---- approx. 2" / 51mm long; .63" / 16mm wide

More about Malachite

Malachite is one of the copper bearing gems. It is very similar (except for its color) to azurite which is also a copper mineral. They are often found together. Malachite is much more available that azurite, however. Fine malachite is found in many places with the Democratic Republic of Congo currently producing the most sought after malachite along with Arizona, USA.

Malachite is often found with banded formations of color which produces its distinguished appearance. It is sometimes cut to display a bulls eye of green bands found in malachite stalactitics. Malachite is relatively soft and is often carved, too. It has been used for centuries as a beautiful green pigment, as well.
