More About Chrysoprase:
Chrysoprase or chrysophrase is a rare and valuable gemstone variety of chalcedony. Chalcedony is a type of quartz. It is highly prized for its color. Unlike other green stones which are colored by vandium or chromium, chrysoprase contains small amounts of nickel which produces a green shade, usually and preferably, apple green but sometimes darker or deeper green. It is possible for the green to fade if left out in the sunlight. Chrome chalcedony is very similar, however, it is colored by chromium, not nickel.
As a chalcedony, chrysoprase is a 6-7 on the hardness scale. It is usually made into beads and cabochons for jewelry and is very durable. Chrysoprase is found in Western Australia, Germany, Poland, Russia, Arizona, California, and Brazil. Today, the best chrysoprase is found in western Australia, in the Yerilla mines. Australia's large deposits have helped bring prices down but, the mines still exert control over pricing as a result, better chrysoprase can be quite expensive, especially larger pieces.
Chrysoprase brings the unconscious to the conscious so that it can be understood and dealt with. It can banish greed, selfishness and carelessness.
