Nacozari turquoise is a beautiful, vivid blue stone with black matrix and pyrite and quartz inclusions from Northwestern Mexico (Sonora) just south of Bisbee AZ. This has always been a popular turquoise. However, since all mining has come to a complete halt, it is now very collectible and valuable. A recent search has proven this fact with one seller quoting 750.00 a pound or 1.65 a gram for stabilized rough! Rough contains a lot of waste and stabilization brings down the value, so you can see how scarcity is driving the prices up.
I do not know if this stone has been stabilized, however, nearly ALL turquoise is, so I will assume that it is. I do know that this is indeed a nacozari turquoise. I got this from an extremely reputable dealer. The stone contains all the hallmarks of Nacorazi turquoise.
I had this in my collection and decided that it needed to be out of the case and around a turquoise lover's neck. I got out my silver and tools and got to work to produce the beautiful pendant you see. I used heavy pure sterling silver wire (not filled, coated or plated) to make this wire wrapped setting. When I was finished, I applied an antique patina giving some definition to the details. I painstakingly removed the patina leaving what you see now. I then polished it and now I am offering it up to you and hoping that this finds just the right discerning person.
